Children’s Support Program in Shelter
Children staying in our shelter are greeted by a caring Child Advocate, who offers emotional support and guides them through engaging, healing activities. Through games, counseling, art projects, physical play, and educational activities, children gain tools to process their experiences and navigate the challenges of living with violence.
They can also enjoy a safe and private outdoor play area, equipped with secure and modern facilities for fresh air and recreation.
5 Ways to Help a Child Heal from the Trauma of Violence
- Provide Stability: Create a consistent daily routine to help children feel safe and secure.
- Encourage Expression: Support children in expressing their feelings through art, journaling, or play therapy.
- Be a Safe Listener: Let children talk about their experiences at their own pace, and listen without judgment or pressure.
- Promote Positive Relationships: Connect children with supportive adults and peers to foster trust and connection.
- Seek Professional Support: Engage with trauma-informed counselors or child advocates who can provide specialized care.
By addressing the unique needs of children exposed to violence, we can help them rebuild their sense of safety and begin the journey to emotional healing.
